Here's a great press release from Stampin' Up! with some nice tips for a holiday "staycation"...
SALT LAKE CITY, Dec 12, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
A holiday staycation (stay-at-home holiday vacation) may be nestled
under the tree for many families this holiday season. Many people are
reassessing their holiday travel plans and spending habits in favor of
less expensive and more intimate holiday vacations that begin at home.
According to a new
"Ouch Point" survey from Opinion Research Corporation, an infoGROUP
company, 72 percent of people are planning to stay close to home this
holiday season due to economic conditions. Even if a holiday staycation
was not on your holiday wish list, it is easy to create the holiday of
your dreams right at home. Below are a few tips for relaxing and
enjoying your holiday staycation.
1. Set a Departure and an Arrival Time
Even during a staycation you need to designate a start and end date
for your vacation. This makes the time you spend on your vacation
official and decreases the risk of it feeling like any regular day at
home.
2. Unplug
Just because you are staying close to home for the holidays doesn't
mean you can't take time off work. Take the time off work, just like
you would if you were flying to Grandma's house for the holidays. Do
not work or screen calls from the office--don't even check your e-mail
until after your holiday staycation is over.
3. Change Your Routine
It won't feel much like a holiday vacation if you stick to your
everyday routine. Be unstructured and spontaneous. If you don't
normally go to a midnight showing at the movie theater, try it out!
Or stay in your pajamas all day--change things up! Remember, this is
your big chance to escape from your normal routine (it will still be
waiting for you when your vacation is over).
4. Try Something New
Another part of changing up your routine involves trying new things
or accomplishing a goal that you have wanted to start but didn't
have time to do. Learn how to bake your grandmother's famous bundt
cake, learn how to ski, or maybe just rearrange your furniture. What
you do doesn't matter so long as it doesn't seem like work. The
whole point of a staycation is to relax.
5. Preserve Your Staycation
You always take pictures and videos while on vacation. Why should
your staycation be any different? Before your staycation is over,
print your photos and spend time with your family creating a holiday
scrapbook or album to preserve memories of the vacation you took
right at home. Or you can create handcrafted holiday decorations to
commemorate your staycation experience.
If you have never created a scrapbook before, don't let it scare
